With a population of 8
million, locating a suitable hotspot for happy hour in Bangkok is a
navigational minefield. Fortunately,
we are here to help and have narrowed it
down to 5 prime locations, each with their own unique appeal and atmosphere.
We start the list with
everyone’s favourite area, Nana. Not including Nana on the list would be like
not having Pad Thai when on Khao San Rd. Sure, there is lots of sexy stuff
happening around here but you can overlook that for the prospects of bargain
Chequers bar , a British pub and home to many English expats , has a happy hour from 9.00am- 8.00 pm. Located on 5/11 Nana Tai, Sukhumvit Soi 4 It should really just rename itself happy hour. You can get pints and spirits as cheap as 100 baht. Fitzgeralds, an Irish pub very close to Chequers Bar, ALSO has a happy hour but from 8am to 8pm. As it’s an Irish bar, we wouldn’t expect any less. You can also find a pint here for around 100 baht.
If you are more interested in something a little sophisticated and with live music, Apoteka is the place to head to. Located on 27-28 Soi Sukhumvit 11, happy hour is from 5- 8pm with a nice selection of local beers and spirits.
Rooftop bars are
plentiful in Nana but unfortunately not many have a happy hour (silly sausages).
RedSquare Rooftop Bar, however, thankfully does. Located on the 25th floor of
Novotel, 27 Soi Sukhumvit 4 and about 5 mins from BTS Nana, the bar has a buy

in celebrity spotting or just fancy dressing up and going somewhere classy then
stopping off in Thong Lo is your best bet.
Octave Rooftop Bar, located on 2 Ban Kluai Nuea Alley (very close to the BTS), not only boasts a
wonderful 360 view of the city but from 5-7pm, the cocktails are half price.
Perfect for a tinder date.
Another spot that’s
perfect for a date is Phuket Town Restaurant, located on 126/2 Thong Lo 4 Alley. From 5-9PM,you can
enjoy their buy one get one free offer, this includes their infamous Phuket
Godfather got Drunk cocktail which is a mix of bourbon, rum, tequila, cinnamon,
mint and ginger ale. Lovely.
If you simply
just want to get drunk with friends and reminisce about college then consider
Beer Belly. Based on 72 Courtyard in Thonglor, the bar is equipped with beer
pong, Jenga and foosball. During happy hour (5-8pm) on Sunday to Thursday,
drinks are buy one get one free. On Monday and Tuesday, there is also a beer
buffet for 799 baht.
Sala Daeng is a bit of
a mixed bag in regards to what’s on offer; from killer karaoke bars to jazzy
Japanese restaurants to delightful dog cafes. Exploring the area can lead to a
truly random night and that’s sometimes that’s the point, as perfectly
illustrated in The Hangover: Part 2 (though not as wild).
Happy Endings Eats
& Bar, located on 1/5 Sala Daeng
Soi 1, is a hip Vietnamese restaurant and bar that runs a buy one get one free
promotion on selected beers from 5pm – 7pm. They also have live DJs who play
from 7PM on some nights , a truly unique and random experience.
Next on the list is
The Paddy Field, and yes, it is an Irish bar. Located on 9 ซอย Phat Pong 2 Alley and very close to the enchanting
Patpong area. From 11am-8pm is generally happy hour, with spirits, wine, local
and international beers. The bar runs different promos every day as well; BOGOF
on tequila on Friday, BOGOF on Wednesday, Tuesday is a pint of Heineken costs
129 baht, Friday is Jameson shots for 99 baht and Guinness for 199 baht.
If you want all you
can eat tacos for 350 baht as well as beer and wine for 100 baht then head on
over to Sunrise Tacos. Located on 114/19-20 Silom Road (literally on the
corner), happy hour is from 2pm-7pm.
Also consider checking
out Shenanigans, a friendly Irish bar with a great atmosphere, located on 840
Thanon Surawong. Happy hour is 9am-7pm, with pints of beer costing 99 baht.
Lastly, there is
O’Malley’s Irish pub in the basement of united center building, 323 Si Lom. For
190 baht you can get a lovely pint of Guinness (which is on tap too)during the
happiest hours of 10am to 8pm. Expats that frequently visit here are friendly
and full of interesting stories, just like a real Irish pub.

Asok is a popular
hotspot amongst the local expat community and also a great location for making
new friends, especially if you are new to the city. A lot of the bars here are
good if you are interested in somewhere that’s not too overcrowded and
Hemingways, an American
restaurant and bar located on Sukhumvit Soi 11, is a popular meet-up location
for many expats. Their happy hour is from 11am-8pm, draft beer is from 109 baht
while house spirits and bottle beers are only 99 baht.
If you want live music
,a vibrant atmosphere and friendly
staff, consider the [email protected] Bar on 4/51 Soi Cowboy. Happy hour runs from
11am- 9PM and you can get selected beers is 90 baht.
The clubhouse on
21/1-3 Soi Sukhumvit 23 is another watering hole for local expats as well as
sports fans. There are lots of different screens for every sport you can think
of, staff are attentive and ensure that you can watch anything you like. Happy
hour runs from 12pm-7pm on weekdays and 3pm-7pm on weekends. During these
times, you can find bottles of tiger/chang/leo for 90 baht, a pint of Magners
for 210 baht and Guiness is 219 baht a pint.
For the chic and
classy or if you just want a place to take stylish selfies, the rooftop bar at
Sofitel on 189 Sukhumvit is where to go. It is a generally pricey place however
the views are fantastic. From 5pm-7pm, you can buy one get one free.
Saving the best for
last is a groovy restaurant and bar that caters for anyone who’s got a huge
appetite and loves craft beer. Bad Burger and Witch Craft, located on 392/9
Sukhumvit Rd, runs a special buy 2 beers get one free on craft beers from
5pm-8pm during weekdays.
Sure Khao San is
touristy which for some means a no-go however it would be silly to ignore happy
hour, especially when, as the tuk-tuk drivers fondly refer to as, cheap
They say Mulligans on
265 Khao san Rd never closes, which could be partly due to having a happy hour
from 2am-4am as well as from 3pm-8pm. During this time, all draught beers are
99 baht and cocktails are 89 baht.
Superflow City Beach
Club, which sounds like a reality TV show, is a beach themed bar located on 9
khao san Rd. The owner of the bar had spent 12 years in Ibiza and wanted to
recreate a similar party scene. From 7pm-9pm, you can get tasty cocktails for
250 baht, Singha bottles are 90 baht and vodka + mixer is 90 baht too.
Now for something more local and hip, check out the Streats bar on 42 Ram Buttri. Happy hour runs from 4:30pm-6:30pm and again from 10:30pm-11:30pm. During this time, you can get buy one get one free on all cocktails, mocktails, draught beer and house wine.
